Black Swamp Road – Nutshell Return is a 47 km day ride, 30% of the 47 km are unpaved well graded roads. The elevation gain of the route is just over 640m, the highest point on the route is 925 m above sea level with a maximum gradient of 8.5%. The rating of this route is Easy. The majority of the roads are wide, smooth surfaces that are relatively free from obstacles. With a large sealed portion, the route is fast and unlikely to take more than a few hours. This route is manageable for beginners and is achievable with a moderate level of fitness.

This ride is a great option to experience the outskirts of Tenterfield and the most northern end of the New England High Country. It boasts sweeping views of the farming plains and subdivision of the old Tenterfield Station. The roads are quiet and fast to ride and suitable for most bikes.
